I’m a lifelong atheist but I’m ever grateful that the rebellious Mozart basically sneaked this out of the Vatican to be heard by the public outside of Rome for the first time, almost incurring the wrath of the Pope who had previously banned its performance or even transcription outside the Vatican. It’s heartbreakingly beautiful.
